Sample Answer

I rarely go to libraries, so I’m not quite professional to describe any of them in my place, but there is one really left me a very good impression留下好的印象 when I traveled to Heshun town in Yunnan Province early this year. It’s called Heshun Library. The town, itself, lies right at the southern end of the Chinese section of an over century old 'tea-horse trade route' that borders Myanmar and stands as one of the ten most charming ancient towns in China. Many well-known Chinese merchants and literati were born in Heshun. Despite its glory of history, locals are most proud of their town's library, the first and largest village library in China.

The library lies beside the river that runs through the town, which was built by stone and wood in 1928 and resembles a college campus with a dooryard. Books, magazines and newspapers in six reading rooms are available to locals free of charge. Now, the library opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 7 p.m. every day. People can borrow books with a library card. Only five people work there. Locals said they come to the library every day to read newspapers and books though some are working in the county.

As the biggest village library in China, Heshun Library boasts a collection of收藏 around 80,000 books, most of which are easy-to-read and are related to people's daily lives such as farming. About 10,000 of the books are rare and ancient ones. Unlike other libraries in big cities, Heshun Library was built with the fund donated by both local merchants and the Heshun people who had settled down in Myanmar. They subscribed to newspapers and magazines and kept abreast of domestic and international current affairs实事.

In the past, when the transportation was very poor, there were no roads in remote areas. If donors wanted to transport books from Shanghai by land, it took about two months. They had to transport the books to Myanmar by ship and then use horses to carry them here. It took about two weeks.

I heard a legend that a farmer in Heshun left his cattle on the mountain and went to read books in the library. It's very unique. Farmers come here to read books and newspapers when they are free. They can also borrow books from the library.

第三部分:

1.Do you think people use more water than they did before?

Yes, I think people use more water today than before. In the past, people’s living standard were not as demanding 要求高的as they are today. They would wash their clothes in the river, and then would use the same river for drinking water. Nowadays people, particularly in big cities, care more about hygiene卫生. They take showers, brush their teeth, and wear perfume everyday to smell good.

2.Do you know how water can be recycled?

Water-saving节约用水 doesn’t require drastic measures严格措施, huge expenses or big shifts in the way you do things. For example, one way to cut down 削减on water use is to turn off the shower after soaping up, then turn it back on to rinse. Never put water down the drain when there may be another use for it such as watering a plant or garden, or cleaning. Avoid flushing the toilet 冲厕所unnecessarily. If you have a double-basin in your kitchen, fill one side with soapy water肥皂水 and one side with rinse water冲洗水.
