成人教育（adult education）基本上分为两种模式，一种是独立学习（study on their own），另一种是在课堂上跟着老师学习（learn in a classroom from a teacher）。在这篇文章中，我将讨论这两种方法（both approaches）。

主体段1：

首先，教师的重要性是不容置疑的（It is an undeniable fact that...）。在学习和应用复杂概念（complex ideas）方面，自己一个人并不能胜任。电脑和书本能分辨答案正确与否（tell whether the answer is right or wrong），但不能告诉人们在哪里出了错，也不能完成涉及推理的教学任务（tasks involving reasoning cannot be taught）。此外，教师还可以把自己的经验和从书本上或其他渠道获得的知识（knowledge gained through experience and other resources）传授给学生。

主体段2：

另外，教师可以激发学生的学习兴趣，鼓励他们学习更多知识（stimulate interest and encourage people to learn more）。他们能让学生集中精力（keep people focused on study），因为学生独自学习容易感到厌烦，会不想学习（get bored and stop studying）。教师还能以更快、更简单的方式（provide a faster and simpler way）将知识传达给学生。他们了解学生的理解水平，做到深入浅出，所以肯定要比自己学习更好。此外，教师也是学生的楷模（role models），是实践中的学者（scholars in action）。他们不仅教授学术科目（academic subjects），还教给学生很多社会技能（social skills）。

主体段3：

另一方面，如今的教学，教师使用电脑来革新自己的教学方式（add innovation to teaching methods）。有了ppt，枯燥乏味的课题也可以变得很有趣（make the dull and boring subjects seem interesting）。因此，自主学习和课堂学习二者应该互补不足（play a complementary role），这样才能让人更具竞争力（more competitive）。

结尾段：

我认为，教学的目的（the purpose of learning）是让学生学习知识并获得技能（acquire knowledge and improve skills），以何种方式其实并不重要。如果人们有机会进课堂学习，那跟着好老师学习是更好的（it would certainly be advisable to learn from...）
