南京环球教育学校——朱希晨

Part 1

1. Do you have any hobbies?

Definitely.I used to be crazy about video games when I was in high school. But now Ireally enjoy reading, especially fantasy novels like the Harry Potter series. They open the doors to a magic world for me.

2. How important is reading for you?

As a student, I have to read in order tostudy. Basically, books are the most significant approach for me to learnknowledge. Besides, I find that reading comic books are quite relaxing, especially when you’re tired of thoseboring theories.

3. If you have more free time, what would you do?

I’d liketo work out more often. As I am quite busy at school now, I really wish I hadmore time to play basketball. In addition, I wish I could travel more as well. Thereare still so many stunning places I’d love to visit.

4. Is it harmful to spend too much time on a hobby?

Well, totell you the truth, I really think it depends. I play basketball almost everyday but I don't think anything bad could happen to me. On the other hand, afriend of mine plays video games day and night. He often stays up late and skipmeals. As far as I’m concerned, that is really bad for his health.

5. What types of films do you like best?

Well, itreally depends on my mood. Usually, after a long day of work, I would go for aromantic comedy. Occasionally, I would enjoy myself with a good thriller, especially one with a complicated plot.

6. Do you prefer to watch a film at the cinema or athome?

Ofcourse at the cinema. The screen is huge, the sound effect is better, and thereis a special atmosphere at the theatre. The only thing I dislike is when someof the audience talked during the film, or when mobile phones went off. It’s soirritating!

Part 2

Describe an unusual building

you should say

what the building is

where it is located

why it is unusual

and explain how you feel about it.

Well, speaking of unusual buildings, I’dlike to talk about Nanjing Museum, which is a unique place here.

Situated inside the Zhongshan Gate, NanjingMuseum is only a few steps away from Minggugong Station. The transport is quiteefficient and convenient. You can take metro line 2 if you want to pay a visitthere.

The main building was designed by LiangSicheng, a renowned Chinese architect.Unlike other modern museums, thebuildings there are in a style of a blend of east and west.

The most amazing part is the tea house, where you can indulge yourself with some local delicacies and enjoy the oldlocal opera at the same time.I’m also really into the marvellous galleries.Apart from a rich variety of antique collections, the museum also has variouskinds of old-fashioned items made in the republic period.

Countless visitors are fascinated by itsretro decoration and the vivid setting. You could see people taking selfieseverywhere in this gallery. I suppose it’s not commonly seen in other museums.

Part 3

1.     Do you think museums should be free?

Of course it would be amazing if themuseums could be free, but it costs a great fortune to maintain the managementof a museum at the same time. So I suppose it would put great pressure onmuseums if the major income were cut off.Charging for entry is a better remedythan selling paintings, closing galleries or sacking staff.Personally, I don’tmind spending some money on the admission fee.

2.     Do you prefer traditionalarchitectures or modern ones?

I’m bored with those similar-lookingskyscrapers. I believe many architects prefer or enjoy modern architecturebecause they want to be inventive, innovative and forward-looking.Most of themodern buildings only have peculiar appearance, but we all know good buildingsare shaped by deeper ideas. The traditional style is an icon of our culture andhistory, which should be reserved and carried forward.

3.     How to get more peopleinterested in history?

To begin with, I believe that people, especially the students, should have more field trips to some museums oreducational bases. WhenI was a pupil, history is my least favorite subjectbecause we were only allowed to read the textbook. In addition, we should havemore public holidays to memorise the significance of the past.
